52 years since Dr Ron Hill MBE won the Commonwealth Games marathon

Last Saturday’s Commonwealth Games marathon, on the streets of Birmingham, was won in two hours, ten minutes. 52 years ago, the Commonwealth marathon was held in Edinburgh, and was won by Ron Hill, in a time of two hours, nine minutes and 28 seconds!

A metal statue of Ron with the same winning salute, has recently appeared close to Ron’s home.

Ron, who died in 2021, was without doubt one of our best Marathon and distance runners.
