After almost ten years as independent Chair of the Association of Play Industries (API), Mark Hardy has announced his intention to step down at the forthcoming API AGM. The API is delighted to announce that former Parkour UK CEO, Eugene Minogue, will take over the role in April.
The API’s profile has increased significantly over recent years, with multiple campaigns gaining national press and TV coverage.
Nick Palmer, CEO of the API’s umbrella body, the FSPA, says: “Under Mark’s leadership, the API has become a leading and influential voice within the industry and beyond. I would like to sincerely thank him for his commitment, passion and expertise over the years and also to welcome Eugene into this exciting post. Eugene and Mark will work together from February to ensure a smooth transition until Eugene takes over the role following the AGM on 27 April 2023.”
Eugene has worked in the sport and play sector for the past 25 years – as CEO of Parkour UK, in local government and for Sport England. He has also been a member of the Play Safety Forum and British Standards Committee for playground equipment. His in-depth knowledge of the sector gives him a unique perspective, enabling him to add significant value to the membership and the play industry as a whole.
“The API has gone from strength to strength during Mark’s tenure and it will be a great privilege and challenge to build on this success,” said Eugene. “I’m excited to continue to raise the profile of children’s play and the crucial role that playgrounds have in ensuring the mental and physical health of a generation. I look forward to supporting our members and to working with them to promote the play industry.”
Mark said: “In these challenging times, the need for children to play outdoors freely and safely has never been more important. I look forward to seeing the API build on the progress of recent years and continue to campaign for every child’s right to everyday play. I would also like to thank API members for their commitment, support and encouragement and to wish them every success.”
