Pakistan continued their sporting success in England by adding a Test Series win against England Hockey to their impressive Twenty20 Cricket World Cup victory in June.
Pakistan, three-time Olympic champions, won the first two Tests before a brave performance from England earned a draw in the dead rubber.
Pakistan and England, who are both ranked in the world top ten, played all three international Test matches at Cannock Hockey Club on its impressive new WETT surface, which was recently supplied by TigerTurf (UK) Ltd.
TigerTurf’s WETT (Water Efficient TigerTurf) surface is so called because it uses significantly less water than traditional water-based products, while still performing to FIH accredited standards.
In addition to the environmental considerations, WETT has been specifically designed with the requirements of the hockey player in mind, and the players were delighted with the surface during the recent international fixtures.
The Pakistan side was so impressed with the facilities at Cannock that they are looking into the logistics of using it as their base for the 2012 Olympics in London.
James Fair, England’s goalkeeper, commented: “It was fantastic to be playing in front of the home crowd on the superb new TigerTurf pitch at Cannock. The pitch allowed the Tests to be played at a terrific pace and, despite losing 2-0, we played some very good hockey that will put us in good stead for the India tests later in the month.”
Bryn Lee, managing Director of TigerTurf (UK) Ltd, added: “We are delighted that the TigerTurf pitch at Cannock was selected to hold the prestigious three Test series against Pakistan. International hockey requires a premier surface that allows for precision, control and command of speed – something the WETT surface provides consistently.”
