New trail running weekender from 5 to 56k launches in May

A new two-day trail running festival featuring three separate trail events has been announced for spring in the Midlands countryside.

The Run Rabbit Trail Festival, which will take place on Marston Lodge Farm in Market Harborough on May 11-12, will challenge hundreds of runners to complete three trail runs of varying levels of difficulty over a two-day festival.

On Saturday, runners will take on the Trail Mix Challenge, a unique event involving five different 5km trail courses every hour for five hours, followed by the Headlight Hop, a twilight 10km run. The event will conclude on Sunday with the Thump Half, a multi-terrain half marathon.

The festival’s three running challenges can be done as standalone events or together to form the headline event, the Quest for the Golden Carrot.

To be eligible for the Quest for the Golden Carrot, runners must complete the combined distance of 56.1km. The fastest three males and three females will then qualify for the Carrot Dash, a ‘winner-takes-all-it-all’ one mile race to win one of two exclusive Golden Carrot trophies.

Brian Corcoran, one of three event organisers at Thump Events Ltd, said: “We believe that we’ve created a special festival that celebrates UK trail running and challenges novice trail runners as well as those with more experience.

“The Trail Mix Challenge is a unique test for even the most accomplished runners, the Headlight Hop is an accessible for all event, the Thump Half is a chance to take long distance running to the trails and The Quest is the ultimate epic test.”

Marston Lodge is a working farm situated in the heart of the English countryside on the Northamptonshire and Leicestershire border. In between events, the site will host entertainment in the form of music, comedy and inspirational speakers. There will also be drop-in yoga classes, massage services, food, drink and camping facilities.

“With rolling hills, incredible views and a site steeped in history, Marston Lodge is the perfect setting for trail running. One thing’s for sure, the weekend promises mud, sweat and post-run beers! Bring on May!”
Entry to the Trail Mix Challenge, Headlight Hop 10km (including food and beer) and Thump Half is priced at £25 each. The Quest for the Golden Carrot is priced at £75 and includes a food and beer voucher, free entertainment, camping, exclusive Golden Carrot medals and the chance to qualify for the Carrot Dash.

Combined entertainment and camping passes are priced at £5 for athletes and £10 for spectators.
