Up & Running manager to make 190-mile charity trek

Not content with running the Cambridge Half Marathon on February 28, Gilly Wight (pictured), manager of Up & Running’s Leeds city centre store, thought she would run to the start line.

Not too big a challenge, you may think, but Wight’s home is in West Yorkshire, so for the eight days prior to the event she’ll be making her way to Cambridge on foot.

Keeping her company for the 190-mile journey will be her trusted four-legged companion, Maximus.

Having been involved with the Yorkshire-based children’s cancer charity Candlelighters for many years, Wight’s raising funds to help the organisation continue its crucial work.

The Otley AC runner says: “My longest run is the Frostbite 30, a 35-mile off-road ultra, so this latest challenge is going to be tough.

“It’s important for me to take on something really challenging to raise money for the fantastic Candlelighters.

“I usually run the Cambridge Half, so thought I’d run there and hopefully raise lots of funds on the way.”
