Andy Murray joins adidas

Andy Murray has signed a shoe and apparel deal with adidas. The 22-year-old Briton will sport the iconic three stripes from January.

Jocelyn Robiot, adidas VP global sports marketing, says: “We are delighted to welcome Andy Murray into the adidas tennis family. Andy is a young, dynamic player that embodies adidas’ pure performer qualities.

“He is a very driven and dedicated athlete and we look forward to working with him on developing our Barricade products and helping him achieve his impossible in 2010.”

Murray says: “I’m really excited to be joining adidas as they are a massive global sports brand with a credible heritage in tennis. Joining a list of stars who have worn the brand, including Muhammad Ali and David Beckham, is an honour. I’m in no doubt that this deal will help me both on and off the court.”

Murray will debut his exclusive adidas Competition and Barricade colourways alongside fellow Briton Laura Robson at the Hopman Cup in Perth, Australia in early January.

In a financial update released today (November 4), adidas reported a seven per cent decline in group sales and a 14.1 per cent fall in group gross profits year on year.

“This year our industry and our group have faced unprecedented challenges. However, we have tackled the challenges head on,” says Herbert Hainer, adidas Group CEO.

“We have successfully adapted to our difficult surroundings, and our drive for operational excellence has meant we have strongly improved our financial position, generating almost €740million in net cash from operations over the last six months.”
