Raymond van Barneveld has committed his long term future to darts after agreeing a new deal with Unicorn.
Barney has signed a new four year contract with Unicorn and he has made it his number one priority to win a sixth world championship crown.
The deal with Unicorn takes the partnership to 2017.
“I am hungry to win the big titles,” he says.
“And I want to do it with Team Unicorn.
“They have given me amazing support through some bad times.
“They have stuck by me and always believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and for that I will always be extremely grateful.”
Barneveld went five and a half years without winning a major TV title until his victory over fellow Dutch star Michael van Gerwen to win the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton last November.
That 16-14 victory reinvigorated Barneveld and reconfirmed his status as one of the very best in the world.
He says: “I want to repay the faith and trust that Unicorn has put in me and that means winning a world championship at the Alexandra Palace.”
Barneveld’s last world crown came in 2007 when he beat Phil Taylor in ‘The Greatest Game’ at the Circus Tavern.
But he came close again this year before just being edged out by Taylor in the Ally Pally semi finals.
“Unicorn is all about the long game and it is a pleasure to work with the true greats of the sport,” says Edward Lowy, the company’s managing director (pictured with van Barneveld).
“Raymond van Barneveld fits into that category.
“Together over the years we have developed something special.”
He added: “We are absolutely delighted to sign a new four year contract with Raymond and look forward to many more successes to thrill the Barney Army around the world.”
